Description
1974 Cessna 172M — N536JR — Air Plains 180HP Conversion
If you've been waiting for a 172M that isn't compromised — no damage, complete logs, and a panel that's actually current — this is the airplane. N536JR has been brought up to a level most owners only talk about doing: a modern Garmin G3X / GFC500 / G5 stack with the GNS530W WAAS GPS as the IFR brain, Aspen EFD1000 Pro Max as secondary glass, dual nav/comms, ADS-B in and out, and a paint-and-interior package scoring 8/10 across the board.
Powerplant — Air Plains O-360 180HP STC. The Air Plains conversion is the upgrade every 172 owner wishes their airplane had: the 180HP O-360 turns this airframe into a useful-load, climb-rate, and hot-and-high performer that flies more like a small Skylane than a stock 150HP Skyhawk. 1,583 hours SMOH on the engine and prop — plenty of life with consistent, documented operation.
Airframe — clean, complete, 2,645 TT. No damage history. Complete and original logbooks. Inspectable at KAGS in Augusta, GA.
Mods that actually matter:
- Tip tanks (extended range — the missing piece on a 172 cross-country machine)
- Vortex Generators (lower stall, better short-field, better handling at slow speeds)
- Power Flow tuned exhaust (the well-documented HP and economy gain)
- Big-nosewheel STC kit — uninstalled, complete, conveys with the sale (next owner gets to install on their schedule)
- Wheel pants — uninstalled, conveys with the sale (we'll let the new owner decide if they want them on)
Avionics — done right.
- Garmin G3X Touch primary glass
- Garmin GFC500 autopilot (the gold-standard digital A/P retrofit)
- Garmin G5 standby attitude
- Aspen EFD1000 Pro Max secondary glass
- Garmin GNS530W (IFR-certified WAAS GPS / nav / comm — the workhorse box)
- Garmin GTX-327 transponder
- Bendix/King KX-155 #2 nav/comm
- Garmin GDL-84 ADS-B in/out (rule-compliant)
- Garmin GDL-52R portable ADS-B / weather backup
Disclosures, plain English. The big-nose and wheel-pant STCs are boxed and convey — they are not installed on the airframe today. We are not pricing them as installed. We're being upfront so there are no surprises during pre-buy.
Asking $219,900. Pre-buy at your inspector of choice at KAGS. Escrow through Aerospace Reports or Insured Aircraft Title — your call, split standard. Serious buyers only — financing pre-qual or proof of funds requested before showing scheduled.
